Dolpa

Dolpa is a largest district of Nepal nestled between Dhaulagiri mountain range to south and east, Mt. Sisne and Kanjiroba to the west and Tibetan platue to the north. An excursion to the Ancient Shey Gompa Monastery, roam around deepest lake of nepal, Shey Phoksundo Lake, explore highest human settlement of Dho Tarap, learn ancient Bonpo culture or trek through high passes are some major attraction of Dolpa. Large portion of Dolpa is protected by Shey Phoksundo National Park which is also one of the largest and only Trans Himalaya National park in Nepal.
You will get a chance to witness unexplored trekking trials as Dolpo was just opened for outsiders in 1989. You need to obtain Restricted area permit from Immigration office in Kathmandu or in Pokhara. Please check the Restricted area Permit fees. The best known of the many isolated high Himalayan valleys across the northern Nepal, Dolpo preserves one of the last remnants of traditional Tibetan culture. One of the highest inhabited realms on the planet, Dolpo is also still a stronghold of the pre-Buddhist, shamanistic Bon-po religion as well as Tibetan Buddhism.

The Dolpa trekking starts at Juphal and follows the track to Dunai, then continues to Tarakot, way up to Bang la Camp, the uppermost point of Dolpa trekking. After passing through Sanu Bheri village, we then descend to the good-looking Phoksundo Lake, which is a piece  the Shey Phoksundo National Park.
